Staying hydrated is important for our body to function in a proper way.  It becomes little more challenging during Ramadan. As temperatures are also high outside, it is very easy to get dehydrated, which causes blood pressure fluctuation, heart rate problems, headache, weakness, dizziness and stomach problems it is utmost important to take care of body so that you can stay healthy and enjoy the festivities.

How to choose the best drink?

Now the question is which are the drinks that will keep you hydrated throughout the day. Of course water is the best for hydration but you can choose out of many other options to give your body a good dose of water content. You can choose from various fruit juices, tea, coffee and other carbonated drinks. But remember, try to decrease the intake of drinks having more sugar level.

Tea as an option!

Tea can be a good option. Many used to believe that they were dehydrating, but that myth has been debunked. The diuretic effect does not offset hydration. So you can drink tea with or without sugar adding some fruits like lemon or orange slice to it. It will quench your thirst of drinking something good with giving your body proper hydration and nutrients.

  • Black tea: Black tea helps giving you a boost of energy with caffeine so you can drink black tea either cold or hot, with mint and lemon or with milk, just after you complete fasting for the day. It will help you to boost your mood.
  • Green Tea: Green tea with lemon or Green Tea with Mint is a great option after meals. As you fast for more than 12 hours everyday, which can affect the digestion of food hence causing stomach problems, heart problems and blood pressure issues. So having a cup of green tea after meals help to digest the food and making your metabolism faster and better.
  • Flavored Teas: Green Tea or Black tea infused with fruits and flowers are a great option to uplift the mood and helping your skin to cope up with the stress. Its aroma works like a magic to relieve the nerves and making your mind calm. Also, make mocktails with teas which is a great way to relish the drink and keeping hydrated.
  • Herbal Teas (Chamomile): This is amazing for immunity and it regulates sleep cycle. It doesn’t have caffeine so it’s a good choice for those who don’t like caffeine in their drink.

Tea can be enjoyed warm or cold and even you can make mocktails with it and enjoy the way you like.

How to avoid dehydration?

Only choosing a good drink is not enough. You have to look into your routine that what you are eating. It can affect body a lot. Have food containing more water in it, like fruits and vegetable. Avoid too sweet and salty foods as it will increase the thirst and will make body dehydrated during fasting.

Drink at least 3-4 liters of water along with other liquids. Treat yourself with fluids that are healthy and light like Tea Mocktails and smoothies. It will help to regulate your body temperatures keeping you hydrated during fasting.
