The tradition of tea during Ramadan is a very good illustration of the Arabic culture in general. Ramadan is a time of spiritual reflection, prayers and  fasting from dawn till dusk. A holy month of intense spiritual rejuvenation and devotion, celebrated when the crescent moon of the ninth month of the Islamic calendar rises.

Fasting has plenty of health benefits. It boosts cognitive performance of the body and protects from obesity and associated chronic diseases. However, it can take a toll on one’s body if not properly taken care of. The most commun issue is dehydration.  Water and fluids have a very important role to play in maintaining body temperature and metabolic system. So it is very essential to stay well-hydrated during the fasting month.

Tea: A Tradition in Ramadan

Tea, coupled with mint and dates,  is a traditional combo and perfect choice for Iftar. It is one of the must-have drinks for its benefits and taste. As body gets dehydrated during the fast, hot tea will help you compensate this lack, as well as help the body digest food easily. Usually low caffeine or non-caffeinated herbal are the best option during ramadan to prepare yourself for a long hot day of fasting.

Hydration: Tea has around 99% of water in it, so it is inevitably a great source of hydration.

Metabolism: Tea like green tea accelerates the metabolism of the body and helps to digest heavy Iftar meals.

Delicious taste: as good as its benefits, tea is after all a delicious drink. It can be served hot and cold, sweet or unsweetened, with caffeine or without caffeine. In many places, Hibiscus tea as a cold brew is a go to drink for Iftar.
