Is Detoxing Good for You? What you should know.
January 8, 2020 Namastea

You wonder if detoxing is good for you? January is usually the month of detox but what does it mean exactly? It can be interpreted in many ways and it is important to know what is good for your body or not.

What is behind the word “detox”?

In general, detox means a change in your daily diet as way to remove toxins from your body, lose weight, or promote health. They may involve a single process or a variety of approaches as far as fasting, drinking only juices or certain kind of beverage or removing specific food. At this point, you need to know what you are putting yourself into.

Is it safe?

Some drastic detox program such as fasting or only drinking will reduce drastically your energy and can have potential side effects include low energy, low blood sugar, muscle aches, fatigue, feeling dizzy or lightheaded, and nausea. Implemented over a too long period will affect your overall wellbeing and can be harmful for your body.

Does it work?

You might think it is still worth the risk because you will be able to loose weight or remove the toxins from your body faster. Well the answer is no. Drastic detox program might help you to loose few pounds, but you’ll likely to gain it back since they are not sustainable. No study has been able to show a concrete effect on losing weight thanks to these programs. If your goal is to detox your system, don’t waste your time or money. Your body is an expert at getting rid of toxins no matter what you eat. Toxins don’t build up in your liver, kidneys, or any other part of your body, and you’re not going to get rid of them with the latest detox wonder. Especially avoid diets that promise to detox your liver with supplements or “cleanse” whatever the diet determines needs washing out.

So should I forget about detox?

If you feel like your body need a detox, it is probably because you feel you have consumed too much heavy food during the festive season. In this case, we recommend you to try “clean” eating that focuses on vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and lean protein — basically, whole foods without a lot of processing. Combine your diet with drinking green tea such as Lime Punch. That’s good for you and more likely to give you results that last, especially if you make exercise a habit.

In other words, a good detox is in fact getting back to a healthy diet and give to your body what it truly needs!
